Dictionary

Below is a list of terms that are relevant in initializing the SOSIEL Platform.

Algorithm configuration - the section in the configuration file where cognitive level is set.

Agent configuration - the section in the configuration file where agent attributes are set.

Antecedent - is a component of a decision option that is found in its IF-part and that represents a condition that leads to the decision option's consequent.

Change focal value on previous - is a goal parameter that determines whether the focal value should be updated each iteration with the most recent value of the reference variable.

Consequent - is a component of a decision option that forms its THEN-part and that represents the action that should be taken under current set of conditions.

Consequent relationship sign - is a mental model parameter that determines the relationship between the variable that's the consequent in the mental model's decision options and the goals associated with the mental model.

Consequent value interval - is a mental model parameter that determines the min and max values of the variable that's the consequent in the mental model's decision options. This parameter is used during the process of innovating.

Decision option - is a cognitive structure that is equivalent to a heuristic of a strategy, takes the form of a conditional (IF-THEN) statement, links a set of antecedents with a consequent, and is stored in a mental (sub)model. It is represented by the following set of parameters: (a) antecedents, (b) consequent, (c) required number of participants, and (d) is action.

Goal - is what an agent attempts to achieve with its decision-making. It is represented by the following set of parameters: (a) tendency, (b) reference variable, (c) focal value, (d) change focal value on previous, and (e) is cumulative.

Is action - is a decision option parameter that determines whether it is an action.

Is cumulative - is a goal parameter that determines whether the focal value should be updated by adding the current value of the reference variable to the prior period's value.

Max number of decision options - is a mental model parameter that sets the maximum number of decision options that can be stored by a mental model.

Mental model - is a cognitive structure that corresponds to a specific situation and stores situation specific decision options. It is represented by the following set of parameters: (a) modifiable, (b) max number of decision options, (c) consequent value interval, and (d) consequent relationship sign.

Modifiable - is a mental model parameter that determines whether its decision options can undergo innovation.

Reference variable - is a goal parameter that determines the variable that the goal is related to.

Required number of participants - is a decision option parameter that determines how many agents need to take part in order for it to be possible. This parameter differentiates individual from collective action.

Focal value - is a goal parameter that determines the relevant value of the variable that the goal is related to.

Tendency - defines goal type.
